A leading professor warned that students should realize that seeking support from others is helpful rather than only rely on their own’’

‘The use of counselling service normally between 5% and 10% of students in 2015, which means at least about 115,000 students are seeking support,’ said Ruth Caleb, chair of Universities UK’s mental well-being working group.

Students seeking support are normal things even though maybe nobody around them seek support.

Dr Helen St Clair-Thompson, a psychology senior lecturer in Newcastle university said, ‘Engaging in group talking or seeking support enables students would realize that there are a lot of other students are experiencing similar things, therefore it’s fine to talk to other people about your concern or something made you feel uncomfortable.’’

Engaging in Streetwise can be a choice for Newcastle students who want to get fun, seek advices or make friends. Streetwise is a National Award-winning regional charity which offers an informal, safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for young people aged 11 – 25 years.

Streetwise has been running 29 years, which provides professional support via drop-in provision, NHS Relationships & Sexual Health clinics, detached youth work teams (TYS) to help young people.

All services in streetwise is free for young people who want to get fun, seek advices or make friends. There is no right to show the exact environment inside the building since streetwise provides confidential service for young people. which aiming to help young people feel safe and comfortable.

Drop-in session offers 5 times per week, young people are seen on a ‘first come first served’ basis. And young people can bring their friends here to get advices but provides one-to-one service in case the youth worker needs to ask some personal questions.
